With just 3 easy ingredients (mayo, diced dill pickles, and my Everything BBQ Sauce), you can whip up this Homemade Burger Sauce in under 10 minutes! This tangy stuff is great for topping, dipping, and more.
Homemade Burger Sauce
If you’ve ever made my backyard griddle version of Smash Burgers, then you already know how much I love this pickle-studded burger sauce. It’s simple to make with a mayo base, but oozing with smoky, BBQ flavor from my signature Everything BBQ Sauce. 3 ingredients, 1 bowl, and it’s ready in 10 minutes. Once you have a jar of this in the fridge, you’ll find yourself making excuses to grill burgers. Let’s make some burger sauce!
Ingredients for Homemade Burger Sauce
This sauce is so easy to throw together with just 3 simple ingredients. Here’s what you’ll need on hand so you can make it:
- ¼ cup mayonnaise: This provides the creamy base for your sauce. I like a full-fat mayo because you get a rich texture.
- 3 dill pickles (diced): The pickles bring that classic tang and a little crunch. Dice them yourself if you can. It only takes a minute and gives you better texture than pre-diced. Sweet pickles work too if that’s your thing, but I prefer dill.
- 2 Tablespoons Hey Grill Hey Everything BBQ Sauce: My Kansas City-style sauce brings just enough sweetness and smoke to turn the mayo into something special. It’s also what gives the sauce the pink color you’d expect from a good burger sauce. If you have a favorite BBQ sauce, you can swap that as well.
How to Make Homemade Burger Sauce
If you thought the ingredients list was simple, just check out the steps for making this sauce. Just a little dicing and stirring, and you’ve got a banger burger sauce on your hands:
- Dice the pickles. Use a sharp knife to dice your pickles fine. You want little bits evenly mixed throughout the sauce, not big chunks.
- Combine everything. Add the mayo to a small bowl, then add the diced pickles and Everything BBQ Sauce. Stir with a rubber spatula until the mayo and sauce are fully combined and the pickles are evenly distributed.
- Taste and adjust. One you have the basic sauce made, tailor it to your liking. You can increase the BBQ sauce for more zip, or add more pickles if you like more texture and tang. The best part about a homemade sauce is customizing it exactly how you and your family love it most.
- Use it. Slather it on burgers, use it as a dip for fries, spread it on a sandwich, the saucy possibilities are endless. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge to use for 3 to 4 days.
Susie’s Homemade Burger Sauce Pro Tips
The recipe card has everything you need for a killer burger sauce, but here are a few tips to help you nail it:
- Dice your own pickles. Pre-diced or relish-style will work in a pinch, but freshly diced dill pickles have better texture and hold up in the sauce.
- Let it sit. If you have 20 to 30 minutes before serving, let the sauce rest in the fridge. The flavors meld and the sauce thickens slightly. This isn’t required, but it’s totally worth the wait.
- Double the batch. This recipe makes about ¼ cup, which is just enough for four burgers. If you’re feeding a crowd or want some on hand all week, double or triple everything. You don’t even have to do the math. Just click the “2x” or “3x” button in the recipe card!
